The Independent National Electoral Commission has partnered with the National Identity Management Commission to harmonise voter registration and national identity processes. The agreement was announced during a meeting at INEC headquarters in Abuja, where NIMC’s Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, led her team to brief INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu.
Professor Yakubu said the collaboration would transform Nigeria’s electoral system, pointing out that both agencies hold the country’s largest biometric databases. He stressed that integrating the National Identification Number into voter registration would ensure that every eligible voter is uniquely and verifiably identified.

Mrs Coker-Odusote described the alliance as strategic for national progress, noting that NIMC will provide INEC with secure, up-to-date identity data while safeguarding privacy and data protection. She said the partnership was aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen institutions and boost credibility in elections.
Both agencies pledged continued cooperation to enhance voter verification, curb multiple registrations, and guarantee a more transparent electoral process in future elections.
