PETROAN Threatens Three-Day Petrol Shutdown Over Dominance of Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, has announced plans to halt fuel lifting and sales for three days from Tuesday, September 9, if consultations with stakeholders fail.

The association said the move was to resist monopolistic practices in the downstream sector and protect the rights of its members.

PETROAN’s leadership urged urgent intervention from President Bola Tinubu and key petroleum regulators to prevent hardship. It warned that the dominance of Dangote Refinery could drive private depot owners, modular refineries, and transport operators out of business, leading to job losses and worsening economic conditions.

The association said the action would be peaceful, stressing its commitment to fair competition, price stability, and industry growth. A 120-member compliance team has been set up to ensure safety at fuel stations during the planned shutdown.
