The Nigerian Army says it has made major gains in its clampdown on oil theft and arms trafficking across the Niger Delta, with a series of coordinated operations in Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states. Between August 25 and September 7, troops arrested 35 suspects, destroyed six illegal refining sites, and seized over 14,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

In Rivers State, soldiers dismantled refining sites in Degema and Emohua, seized illicit petroleum products in Abacheke and Omoku, and intercepted vehicles transporting illegally refined diesel. Similar discoveries were reported in Warri, Oruk Anam, and Abak, where large quantities of crude and refined fuel were confiscated.
Troops also broke up a gunrunning syndicate operating across the region, recovering pistols, locally fabricated weapons, and a double-barrelled gun. The Army said all suspects and items seized have been handed to relevant agencies for prosecution.
