Calvin Bassey netted his first international goal for Nigeria as the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa in their World Cup qualifier in Bloemfontein on Tuesday evening.
Nigeria went into the match needing victory to strengthen their push for a place at the 2026 finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Their task became harder when William Troost-Ekong’s own goal put the hosts ahead midway through the first half.
