The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority says passenger refunds rose sharply to 257.2 million naira between January and August 2025. This compares with 108.3 million in the same period last year and 32.8 million in 2023.
According to the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the growth followed closer engagement with airlines and sensitisation of air travellers. He said refunds also included 6.08 million naira in hotel accommodation claims by July this year.

Achimugu attributed the rise to stronger compliance by airlines with the NCAA’s consumer protection framework, despite operational challenges in the aviation sector.
He described the development as one of the Authority’s proudest achievements in its 25-year history, pledging that passenger rights will continue to be safeguarded.
