Airline Operators of Nigeria have welcomed the Federal Government’s suspension of the four percent Free on Board levy on imports, describing it as a crucial step in preventing further strain on the aviation industry. The group said the measure would help curb inflationary pressures, safeguard jobs, and keep Nigeria competitive globally.

Industry leaders warned that enforcing the levy would have driven up airlines’ operating costs, worsening challenges in a sector already struggling with high expenses. They praised President Bola Tinubu and Finance Minister Wale Edun for responding swiftly to industry concerns.
The suspension, announced by Mr Edun in a letter to Customs, overrides an earlier plan to reintroduce the levy. Operators said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly climate while working with stakeholders to promote sustainable growth in the aviation industry.
