The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, says internet fraud is exposing innocent Nigerians to stricter visa restrictions abroad. He explained that cybercrime, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, continues to damage Nigeria’s reputation internationally.
Speaking in Port Harcourt at a youth event on security and safety, Mr Olukoyede, represented by Coker Oyegunle, warned young people that financial crimes often end in loss of freedom, reputation, and future. He urged them to embrace innovation, entrepreneurship, and other productive ventures instead.

The EFCC boss said cybercrime, money laundering, and economic sabotage cost Nigeria billions of naira each year, depriving citizens of infrastructure, jobs, and opportunities. He added that the crimes not only weaken the economy but also undermine national growth.
Also at the event, Mathew Ewah of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency warned that drug abuse remains a major social problem, with young Nigerians most affected. He said substance abuse is turning many into social misfits, damaging families and communities.
