The Federal Government says Nigerians will soon be able to obtain passports within seven days of application, following a major upgrade at the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo gave the assurance after inspecting the newly completed Data Personalisation Centre in Abuja, which he described as a turning point for passport production. The facility, equipped with new high-capacity machines, can process about 1,000 passports every hour, compared with just 250–300 per day previously.

Officials say the new system will eliminate backlogs, cut response times, and reduce human interference. Passports are now expected to be printed within 24 hours and delivered within a week. The Minister noted that this marks the first time since 1963 that Nigeria will operate a centralised world-class passport personalisation facility, bringing it in line with global standards.
