The Nigerian Correctional Service says its officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle illicit substances into the Kuje custodial centre in Abuja. The incident occurred during a routine search around 12:45pm on Saturday.
FCT command spokesperson Samson Duza identified the suspect as Njimogu Ikedi, who allegedly concealed cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs in his clothes while attempting to visit an inmate. He said the suspect was immediately arrested on the orders of the Controller of Corrections, Christopher Jen.

According to the NCoS, the suspect has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and prosecution. Jen warned that vigilant officers would continue to expose visitors with “ulterior motives.”
The interception comes more than a year after a woman was caught trying to smuggle drugs into the same facility, disguised as a visitor. Officials urged the public to support efforts to reform and rehabilitate offenders for public safety.
