Remi Tinubu Raises N20bn for National Library Completion

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, says more than 20 billion naira has been raised for the completion of the National Library in Abuja. The funds were mobilised through her appeal to well-wishers earlier this month to convert birthday gifts into donations for the project.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Mrs Tinubu described the initiative as part of her 65th birthday celebrations. She said the campaign, tagged ‘Oluremi at 65 Education Fund’, is being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The First Lady recalled that the National Library project was first initiated under the Shehu Shagari administration but has remained uncompleted. She noted that libraries played a key role in her own development and described the completion of the project as her desired birthday gift.

Responding to criticism of her efforts, Mrs Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of service to the nation, saying the project was a collective responsibility. She added that donations were still being received.
