Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has cautioned that technology must remain a tool for justice rather than dominate it. Speaking at the Lagos 2025/2026 New Legal Year Summit, she highlighted both the benefits and risks of Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms in modern courts.
While acknowledging gains in efficiency and access, she warned that data breaches, manipulation of records, and cyberattacks could erode public trust. She urged judges and lawyers to uphold fairness and accountability as the justice system embraces digital transformation.

Lagos Attorney General Lawal Pedro pledged government backing for judicial innovation but warned of the dangers of misuse. Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa called for reforms, arguing that states should be empowered to legislate on cybersecurity, a matter currently restricted to federal authority.
