CDS Hails 20 Years of Military Health Partnership with US Institute

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has praised the two-decade partnership between the Defence Health Implementation Programme and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Africa, describing it as a model of international cooperation that has transformed military and civilian healthcare.

Speaking at an anniversary event in Abuja, General Musa highlighted advances in HIV prevention, COVID-19 response, and infectious disease research, noting the impact on force readiness and public health. He stressed that investments in laboratories, training, and capacity building had strengthened 32 military health facilities nationwide.

The Defence Chief said the collaboration had preserved thousands of lives and empowered healthcare workers, calling it a legacy of service and solidarity. Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, also commended the partnership, saying it reinforces Nigeria’s security and health systems in line with national priorities.
