Former Super Eagles Star Ezeji Arrested in Port Harcourt Fraud Case

Former Super Eagles striker Victor Ezeji has been arrested in Port Harcourt over allegations of issuing dud cheques worth nearly ₦40m. Police say the 44-year-old, once a leading figure in Nigerian domestic football, was detained after weeks of surveillance.

Investigators allege Ezeji and his wife bought 60,000 litres of diesel from a businessman but issued cheques that later bounced. While Ezeji has admitted signing them, he insists his wife handled the transaction. She is still on the run.

The arrest has shocked many fans who recall his two-decade career, including spells at Sharks, Dolphins, Heartland, Sunshine Stars, and Enyimba, where he twice won the CAF Champions League. Ezeji, who also played in Tunisia and earned eight caps for Nigeria, remains celebrated as one of the NPFL’s most decorated players and an ambassador for youth development.
