Electricity Workers Ordered to Down Tools Nationwide

The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has directed its members across Nigeria to withdraw their services with immediate effect, following the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

In a memo signed by acting General Secretary Dominic Igwebike, the union cited grievances ranging from unpaid salaries since April 2025, non-implementation of the national minimum wage, casualisation of workers, and the absence of operational tools, vehicles, and protective equipment. It also accused the TCN of neglecting retirement benefits and unresolved issues linked to its unbundling.

NUEE condemned what it described as management’s lack of seriousness in addressing long-standing concerns and insisted the industrial action would continue until commitments were met. Members have been instructed to fully comply with the directive, raising fears of further disruption in the already fragile electricity supply sector.
