An explosion has killed one person in Obinwanne community, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State. The blast occurred on Thursday, leaving two passers-by injured and taken to hospital.
Police identified the victim as Chinworeke Mmadu, who was carrying an explosive device when it detonated. Viral videos showed him severely injured before his death, with residents alleging he was attempting to plant the device in a market.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the bomb exploded prematurely. Officers from Njaba Division, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, secured the scene and declared the area safe.
Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma assured residents that the command is committed to protecting lives and property. He urged the public to remain calm, security-conscious, and provide timely information to aid investigations.
