United States President Donald Trump says Israel will not be allowed to annex the occupied West Bank, setting him at odds with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his far-right government.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump insisted he would block any annexation attempt but gave no details of how his administration would enforce the stance.

Analysts welcomed the remarks but questioned whether Trump would follow through, noting his history of shifting positions on Middle East policy. Israeli lawmakers in July had backed a non-binding motion calling for annexation of the West Bank, a move championed by far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich.
The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law, while far-right members of Netanyahu’s coalition continue to push expansion plans despite international opposition.
