Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on Lagosians to contribute actively to national growth, stressing that unity between citizens and government remains the foundation for progress. Speaking at the 65th Independence Day Parade in Marina, he said the theme of this year’s anniversary underlined the need for shared responsibility in building a stronger Nigeria.
The governor highlighted his THEMES+ agenda, which expands social welfare programmes, boosts youth empowerment, and strengthens support for vulnerable households. He pointed to initiatives in healthcare, education, and food subsidies as evidence of his administration’s commitment to easing hardship.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos’s backing for President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, warning against the misuse of social media to spread division. The ceremony featured parades, the anniversary cake-cutting, and attendance by lawmakers, traditional leaders, diplomats, and members of the judiciary. A lawmaker, Adedeji Adewale, also praised Nigeria’s resilience and economic progress.
