Arise TV Anchor Dies After Fall During Abuja Robbery

Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, died after leaping from the third floor of her apartment during an armed robbery in Abuja. This is according to the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who said the late broadcaster jumped in fear after gunmen shot a security guard at her Katampe residence in the early hours of Monday.

Commissioner Adewale, confirmed that Miss Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was found unconscious at the scene and rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where attempts to resuscitate her failed. A private security guard also lost his life during the attack.

The commissioner described the incident as a clear case of armed robbery, with handsets and cash stolen from several residents in the 18-flat complex. He emphasised that Maduagwu was not shot but died from injuries sustained after her fall.
