The House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations has commended the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, for maintaining high safety standards at the Calabar Power Plant in Odukpani, Cross River State. The lawmakers gave their assessment after inspecting the 565MW facility, highlighting improvements since their last visit in 2018.
Committee Chairman, David Zacharias, said the exercise aimed to ensure safe working environments across the power sector. He praised staff commitment but urged further upgrades, including improved lighting, rest areas for shift workers, and better office facilities.

Led by Chief Operating Officer Engr. Ayoade Olanrewaju Bex, the tour showcased the plant’s compliance record. NDPHC officials reaffirmed their focus on staff welfare and safety, stressing that the workforce remains central to operations. The delegation described the plant as one of the sector’s best in safety compliance.
