Legal Committee to Deliver Ruling on Former CCT Chairman’s Assault Case

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, will on 15 October rule on a petition against Danladi Umar, former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT, over allegations of assaulting a security guard in Abuja in 2021. The case was brought forward by former NBA vice-president, John Aikpokpo-Martins.

Mr. Umar was captured in a viral video attacking the guard at Banex Plaza after being asked to move his vehicle. The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting a Senate ethics inquiry, which Umar later challenged in court. His defence team claimed the guard acted rudely.

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed Mainasra Kogo as CCT chairman, with Mr. Umar formally removed later that year following legislative approval. The LPDC, which oversees professional discipline in the legal sector, will issue its decision at the Body of Benchers complex in Abuja.
