The entire South African delegation aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla has been detained by Israeli forces in international waters while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Organisers condemned the action as a violation of international law, describing it as an attack not just on the delegates but on efforts to provide food, water, and medicine to civilians.
Among those held are humanitarian and political leader Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, author Zukiswa Wanner, disability rights advocate Dr Fatima Hendricks, and gender rights activist Carolyn Shelver.

The flotilla, carrying essential supplies including baby formula, was part of a wider initiative to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Campaigners accused Western governments of enabling Israeli actions through continued military and political support. They called for the immediate release of those detained and renewed demands for an end to the siege.
