Israel Deports Greta Thunberg and 170 Activists After Gaza Aid Flotilla Interception

Israel says it has deported climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and 170 other activists detained after their flotilla was intercepted en route to Gaza. The Global Sumud Flotilla, comprising more than 40 civilian vessels with about 470 people aboard, was halted by Israeli forces last week.

Authorities in Tel Aviv described the flotilla as a publicity stunt, insisting all detainees were treated lawfully and their rights upheld. Some deported participants, however, alleged mistreatment while in custody.

Those deported have been sent to Greece and Slovakia. Israel said the group included nationals from across Europe and the United States. It marks the second time Thunberg has been expelled by Israel after attempting to reach Gaza by sea.
