The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has declared full spiritual independence from the Church of England, rejecting the appointment of Bishop Sarah Mullally as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church said her support for same-sex marriage and elevation as the first female to hold the role marked a moral decline in Anglican leadership.
In a statement signed by the Primate, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, the Church described the decision as devastating and insensitive, accusing the Church of England of deepening existing divisions within the Communion.

It urged conservative Anglicans worldwide to remain steadfast in defending the faith against what it called revisionist and unbiblical teachings.
