Lagos Tops Nigeria’s 2024 Revenue Rankings with Over ₦1.2 Trillion

Lagos State retained its position as Nigeria’s highest revenue-generating state in 2024, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The report, released on Monday, showed that the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory collectively generated ₦3.6 trillion in internally generated revenue — a 49.7 per cent increase from ₦2.43 trillion in 2023.

Lagos led with ₦1.26 trillion, followed by Rivers, the FCT, Ogun, and Enugu. Yobe, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa recorded the lowest revenues.

The Bureau said tax revenue, particularly Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE), accounted for nearly 70 per cent of total collections, amounting to ₦1.86 trillion, while capital gains tax contributed the least, at just ₦10.57 billion.
