Hamas has said it is open to a deal to end the war in Gaza based on a U.S.-backed proposal but insists on key conditions, suggesting the Egypt-hosted talks with Israel will be long and difficult. The statement coincided with the second anniversary of Hamas’s attack on Israel, which sparked the ongoing conflict.
The group wants a permanent ceasefire, full Israeli withdrawal, and the start of reconstruction under Palestinian oversight. Israel, however, demands Hamas disarm — a position the group rejects.

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about progress and said an American team had joined negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh. But diplomats on all sides urged caution, noting the depth of mistrust. The war has killed tens of thousands in Gaza and left the territory in ruins, while Israel continues its offensive amid growing global criticism.
