NELFUND Says ASUU Strike Won’t Disrupt Student Loan Operations

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has assured students and institutions that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will not disrupt its activities.

Speaking on a televised interview monitored by Radio Now’s newsdesk, NELFUND Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, said that ongoing talks between the Federal Government and ASUU under Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa were expected to yield fair outcomes.

He noted that NELFUND’s mandate remained intact, with fresh timelines set for tertiary institutions yet to verify their students. The loan application portal will reopen from October 12 to 14 to ensure all eligible students are captured.

Sawyerr added that the scheme, designed to ease education financing, would continue unaffected by the strike, as the government’s approach seeks to address both student needs and broader challenges within the education sector.
