Edo Governor Orders Cabinet to Wear ‘Asiwaju’ Cap at Meetings

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed all newly sworn-in commissioners and special advisers to wear the ‘Asiwaju’ cap—bearing the insignia of President Bola Tinubu—at cabinet meetings. The governor warned that anyone failing to comply would be barred from executive sessions.

Speaking during the inauguration of commissioners and members of state commissions in Benin City, Okpebholo said his victory in the November 2024 election was made possible by the president, describing the cap as a symbol of gratitude and loyalty.

The directive, delivered to loud applause at the Government House, has since drawn widespread criticism on social media, where many Nigerians have condemned it as an unnecessary and excessive display of political allegiance.
