Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, marking another high-profile defection from the opposition bloc.
Diri announced his resignation during a cabinet meeting in Yenagoa, citing what he described as “obvious reasons” for leaving the party. He expressed appreciation to his supporters and pledged to continue working for a stronger Bayelsa and a united Nigeria.
According to government sources, several members of his cabinet and the state assembly have also withdrawn their membership of the PDP.

Governor Diri’s departure comes less than 24 hours after Enugu governor Peter Mbah joined the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The development reduces PDP’s control to eight states nationwide, intensifying political realignments ahead of future elections.
