The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. His confirmation followed more than two hours of questioning by lawmakers during Thursday’s screening session.
President Bola Tinubu had nominated the 58-year-old law professor, whose appointment was earlier endorsed by the National Council of State. Lawmakers questioned him on plans to restore credibility to Nigeria’s electoral process and introduce reforms at the commission.
