Saudi Arabia has reduced Nigeria’s annual Hajj quota from 95,000 to just under 67,000, effective from 2026, after the country failed to fully utilise its allocation in the past two years. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, confirmed the reduction following updates on the NUSUK Masar portal.
NAHCON’s Deputy Director of Information, Fatima Sanda Usara, said new seat allocations to states would now depend on their 2025 Hajj performance. The Commission’s Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, urged unity and stricter medical screening compliance in line with Saudi requirements.

During a meeting with stakeholders, officials discussed reducing some cost components, including cargo handling charges, to ease pilgrims’ expenses. The Commission also appealed to the Central Bank to reconsider its two per cent charge on Hajj-related transactions.
