The English Premier League has celebrated Nigerian footballers who have made their mark in the league over the years. In a post on X, the Premier League paid tribute to the “greatness” of Nigerian players, past and present, highlighting the country’s rich contribution to the league’s history.
A poster featuring Nigeria’s flag and map included legends such as Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Obafemi Martins, Mikel Obi, and Yakubu Aiyegbeni, alongside current stars Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Nigeria holds the record for the highest number of African players to feature in the EPL since its inception in 1992, with 57 in total. Eight Nigerians are currently playing in the league this season, following new signings by Wolves, Fulham, and Crystal Palace.
Iwobi and Shola Ameobi are tied as Nigeria’s most capped EPL players, each with 298 appearances, while Yakubu Aiyegbeni remains the country’s top goalscorer in the competition with 95 goals.
