The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has warned members of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow movement against vandalising public infrastructure during Monday’s planned protest in Abuja. FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu said the Corps had deployed officers to protect critical national assets and maintain peace before, during, and after the rally.
The protest, convened by activist Omoyele Sowore, seeks the release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, despite a Federal High Court order restricting demonstrations around key government facilities. Mr. Odumosu urged participants and residents to obey the law and avoid the destruction of property.
He said anyone found with criminal intent would be arrested and prosecuted, while reassuring residents of safety across the city. Sowore, however, insists the protest will go ahead peacefully, describing it as lawful and constitutionally protected.
