Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has returned to Udinese’s starting lineup for their Serie A clash against Cremonese, ending a two-month suspension linked to betting irregularities involving close associates. Although not personally implicated, Italian football authorities imposed a precautionary ban that sidelined him for six league matches.
During his absence, Romanian understudy Răzvan Sava managed only one clean sheet as Udinese struggled for consistency. Head coach Kosta Runjaic has now reinstated Okoye, reaffirming him as his first-choice goalkeeper while praising Sava’s professionalism. The match in Cremona could mark a fresh start for both Okoye and the club.

Okoye’s return also reignites competition for Nigeria’s No.1 shirt amid concerns over Stanley Nwabali’s recent disciplinary lapses. The 25-year-old is expected to push for a Super Eagles recall ahead of November’s continental playoffs in Morocco.
