Nigeria Records 924 Lassa Fever Cases, 172 Deaths Across 21 States 

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says 172 people have died from Lassa fever across 21 states so far in 2025. In its latest situation report released on Tuesday, the agency confirmed 924 cases as of epidemiological week 40.

The report shows a case fatality rate of 18.6 percent, higher than the 17 percent recorded during the same period last year. The infections were reported in 106 Local Government Areas, with the highest numbers from Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi States.

Ondo State accounted for 35 percent of the confirmed cases, followed by Bauchi with 22 percent, Edo 17 percent, Taraba 13 percent, and Ebonyi 3 percent. The remaining 10 percent of infections were recorded across 16 other states.

The NCDC said most of those affected are between the ages of 21 and 30, with a male-to-female ratio of 1 to 0.8. It added that no new infections were reported among healthcare workers during the week under review.
