The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, says there has been no act of genocide against any group in Nigeria, whether Christian or Muslim. He made the statement at the opening of the Northern Traditional Rulers Assembly in Birnin Kebbi.
The Sultan challenged anyone, within or outside Nigeria, to provide evidence of any genocide, asking where and how it allegedly occurred. He added that traditional leaders would always be aware if such an event happened within their communities.
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar also cautioned Nigerians against believing unverified reports on social media, warning that much of the content circulating online is false or misleading. He called on the Federal Government to put measures in place to regulate social media activity and curb misinformation.
