The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, says the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, has strengthened governance and expanded local participation in the country’s oil and gas sector. Commission Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, made this known at the 2025 International Conference on Hydrocarbon Science and Technology in Abuja.
Represented by Kelechi Ofoegbu, he said the PIA introduced transparency, fairness, and efficiency in managing Nigeria’s energy resources—values that have helped indigenous firms now account for over 30 percent of national oil output.

Komolafe added that gas previously flared is being captured to power homes, industries, and clean cooking initiatives. He reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to achieve zero gas flaring by 2030, noting that the Tinubu administration’s governance reforms are restoring trust and competitiveness in the energy sector.
