Hull City assistant coach Dean Holden has praised Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle for handing Semi Ajayi vital minutes during Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin. Holden said the games helped the central defender regain his sharpness after two months on the sidelines.
Ajayi, who returned to Hull’s starting line-up against Leicester City on Tuesday, delivered a composed defensive display, particularly in the second half, helping the Tigers preserve their lead. Holden, standing in for suspended head coach Sergej Jakirovic, said Ajayi’s rhythm and timing had clearly improved since his national team outings.

The former Arsenal youth captain had come off the bench against Lesotho before starting against Benin. Although suspended for Nigeria’s next qualifier, he remains in contention for a potential play-off fixture in Morocco.
