FG to Disburse ₦32.9bn Basic Healthcare Fund to States Before October Ends

The Federal Government has announced the launch of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund Guideline 2.0, which will guide the disbursement of ₦32.9 billion to states and health facilities before the end of October. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, said the new framework introduces performance-based financing and stronger accountability systems.

Professor Pate noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for transparency and efficient use of public resources. He said the number of supported primary health facilities will expand from 8,800 to 13,000, with plans to reach 17,000 under the HOPE Programme. Facility allocations have also doubled to between ₦600,000 and ₦800,000 per quarter.

According to the minister, recent data show significant progress in healthcare delivery, including an 80-million increase in visits to primary health centres and a 12 percent reduction in maternal mortality. He added that over 21 million Nigerians are now covered under health insurance, while more than 11,000 pregnant women have received emergency care this year.

To ensure transparency, Professor Pate said a Joint Task Force has been activated to monitor fund use at both facility and community levels. He also announced that emergency response coverage through the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System now extends to 30 states, with nationwide access expected by December 2025.
