A Sudanese journalist, Muammar Ibrahim, has been detained by the Rapid Support Forces in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. His arrest came on Sunday evening, shortly after the RSF claimed to have taken control of the besieged city.
Ibrahim, a freelance contributor to Al Jazeera Mubasher, had reported from El-Fasher throughout the war, documenting life under siege. Videos circulating online show him surrounded by RSF fighters, declaring that he is a neutral journalist with no allegiance to either the Sudanese army or the RSF.

In another video, Ibrahim appears crouched on the ground as fighters prompt him to speak, with one striking him lightly on the head. The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has expressed deep concern over his safety and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
El-Fasher has endured nearly 18 months of siege amid fierce battles between the Sudanese army and the RSF. The International Organization for Migration says over a thousand people fled the city in just two days last week as fighting intensified.
