Gov. Fubara Vows to Unlock Rivers’ Blue Economy with New Coastal Projects

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his administration is committed to unlocking the state’s blue economy and tourism potential through new infrastructure projects in the coastal region. He stated this during an inspection of the 13.52-kilometre Ngo–Atlantic Beach–Oyorokoto Road in Andoni Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Governor Fubara said the project marks a deliberate effort to diversify Rivers State’s economy through marine-based development and tourism. He explained that the new access road would connect the Andoni council headquarters, Ngo, to a beach facing the Atlantic Ocean, creating opportunities for fishing, hospitality, and related industries.

The Governor noted that the road, which cuts through challenging coastal terrain, would boost activities in Oyorokoto, regarded as West Africa’s largest fishing settlement. He expressed confidence that the project, being executed by MCC, would be completed and commissioned by March next year.

Fubara also inspected the 5.2-kilometre Kalaibiama–Epellema Road in his Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, which includes a 450-metre river crossing ridge. He commended the contractors for maintaining construction quality despite environmental challenges.
