Governors, ministers, and traditional leaders from Nigeria’s South-West gathered in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday to push for power devolution, true federalism, and greater cooperation across the region. The meeting, hosted by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at The Dome, sought to strengthen regional unity and institutional reform.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies for stabilising the economy and increasing state allocations. He cited major federal projects such as the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway and Ilaje deep seaport as examples of development in the region.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called for a shared regional agenda to promote innovation, education, and good governance. He said the South-West must lead Nigeria’s renewal through unity and inclusive growth. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, pledged continued collaboration to strengthen democracy and economic resilience.
On his part, Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti urged the governors to prioritise cooperation over party politics, encouraging states to adopt and adapt each other’s successful policies.
