FG Targets $1trn Economy by 2030, Looks to Agriculture as Main Driver

The Federal Government says agriculture will play a central role in achieving Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy target by 2030. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, said in Abuja that food systems must drive inclusive growth, supported by private sector investment.

He added that public funds would focus on communities with the highest potential to generate value and reduce risk for investors.

Mr. Bagudu also announced plans to map the economic and agricultural potential of Nigeria’s 8,809 wards to identify local opportunities in crop production, fish farming, and processing industries.

Meanwhile, former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi criticised the nation’s hunger levels, saying Nigeria has no reason to rank among the world’s hungriest countries given its fertile land and energetic youth population.
