A coalition of northern Nigerian women has cautioned against framing the country’s insecurity as a religious war, following recent comments by US President Donald Trump threatening military intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
In a statement titled “Peace, Not Provocation,” the group, Voices for Inclusion and Equity for Women (VIEW), said such remarks risk deepening divisions and inflaming sectarian tensions in a country already battling complex security challenges.
The coalition noted that both Muslim and Christian communities across northern Nigeria have suffered violence driven by poverty, politics, climate change, and impunity not faith. It said women and children have borne the brunt of the crisis, often displaced or widowed, yet continue to hold fractured communities together.

VIEW called for responsible diplomacy, equal protection for all Nigerians, inclusive peacebuilding, and justice for victims and perpetrators alike. The group stressed that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, and urged both local and global leaders to focus on rebuilding trust and security rather than promoting fear or division.
