Israel’s former chief military advocate, Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, has been arrested after admitting to leaking a video showing soldiers abusing a Palestinian detainee. She resigned on Friday before her arrest and has been accused of fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice. A judge extended her detention by 48 hours.
Five reservists featured in the footage have already been charged, accused of stabbing the detainee near the rectum with a sharp object. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said the prison service had been instructed to ensure the detainee’s safety and called for a professional investigation.
