President Tinubu Appoints John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s First Tax Ombudsman

President Tinubu Appoints John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s First Tax Ombudsman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed John Nwabueze as Nigeria’s first tax ombudsman, under the newly established Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria Act 2025. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the appointment reflects Tinubu’s commitment to reforming the country’s tax and revenue administration for greater efficiency and accountability.

Mr. Nwabueze, from Delta State, brings extensive experience in both public service and the private sector, having served as a tax adviser to several government committees and a managing partner at a tax advisory firm. His academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Business Administration from Walden University and degrees in Accounting and Mathematics from the University of Jos.

According to the statement, the tax ombudsman’s office will handle complaints relating to taxes, levies, customs duties, and other fiscal matters. It is also mandated to protect taxpayers from arbitrary or abusive actions by tax officials, ensuring that all disputes are resolved fairly and transparently.
