The Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, has called for stronger protection and management of intellectual property and innovation assets within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, and the wider petrochemical sector.
Speaking at a five-day workshop in Abuja, NCC Director-General Dr John Asein, represented by Mrs Funmi Adewale, said NNPCL’s research data, technologies, and proprietary software are as vital as its physical infrastructure. He warned that neglecting IP protection could lead to financial losses and reputational damage.

The training, organised in collaboration with the NNPC Academy, equipped participants with practical skills in patent, copyright, and trademark management. The NCC also reviewed NNPCL’s draft IP policy aimed at strengthening its innovation framework and ensuring long-term protection of the company’s creative and technological assets.
