A group of prominent northern Nigerians has urged the United States to withdraw recent threats against the country, calling instead for cooperation and strategic support in the fight against insecurity. They warned that external pressure could inflame divisions and undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The appeal was made in Kaduna by Dr Bilkisu Oniyangi, Professor Usman Yusuf, Dr Ahmed Shehu, Dr Aliyu Tilde, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, and Barrister Kalli Ghazali. The group said Nigeria’s security problems must be solved internally through unity, leadership, and political will rather than foreign intervention.

They also urged President Bola Tinubu to directly address the nation, appoint capable envoys to defend Nigeria’s interests, and focus on domestic security. The signatories said Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability depend on collective resolve, not outside influence.
