Ondo Farmers Disown Detained Monarchs, Call Them Impostors

The crisis in Ondo East Local Council has intensified as farmers and residents disowned two detained traditional rulers, describing them as impostors responsible for unrest in their communities. The protesters, who marched to Akure, said the monarchs were no longer recognised by their people following their alleged attacks on a farmer.

They presented documents from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs directing a halt to further installations of minor chiefs in the area. The group also recognised Chief Olu Faloye as the legitimate Baale of Agbondin, displaying his certificate of installation.

Spokesman Ademola Ajibade and other protesters appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to order a thorough investigation, stressing that the dispute concerns ancestral land ownership and a fight for justice, not land grabbing.
