More than 288,000 families in Gaza are now caught in a worsening shelter crisis, as heavy winter rains combine with severe restrictions on humanitarian supplies. Local officials say days of rainfall have submerged tens of thousands of makeshift tents, leaving displaced Palestinians enduring conditions they describe as beyond what “any society can bear.”
Authorities warn the territory is facing its gravest humanitarian emergency since the conflict began, accusing Israel of deepening the crisis by blocking critical shelter materials and keeping key crossings closed. The United Nations confirmed that more than 13,000 households were affected within hours of the first storm.
