Samuel Chukwueze says Nigeria’s failure to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup was caused by misfortune rather than a lack of talent. The winger, on loan at Fulham, insisted the Super Eagles remain a stronger side than DR Congo, who edged Sunday’s playoff in Rabat 4–3 on penalties after a tight 1–1 draw.
Nigeria entered the match as favourites, boasting a squad led by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, but injuries disrupted the team’s rhythm. Both forwards were forced off early, weakening an attack already under pressure from Congo’s organised defending. A bright Nigerian start faded after Frank Onyeka’s early goal was cancelled out by Meschack Elia.
